Modifications to the guitar that made it a better player (just like John Lennon did) was to change to Gold Grover tuners and now stays in tune better. Also the obnoxiously thick factory coat of Poly has been finely sanded down to a satin/matte finish (except on the headstock). I removed the ugly white pickguard and put it way. This guitar looks and feels GREAT, resonates better (it just doesn’t look like it was dipped in plastic anymore). I even added a black grommet under the 3-way switch like John had on his.
The pickups sound amazing with all of the bite and snarl that you would expect from P90’s. Great Beatle inspired guitar.

Of all the guitars made famous by the Beatles, the only one that John, Paul, and George had in common was the Epiphone Casino. Each owned one and used it for countless recordings and performances. The Epiphone Casino was a very important guitar to the Beatles. Paul McCartney is was the first to get a Casino and John and George followed.
After being influenced to purchase it by his friend, blues musician John Mayall, McCartney said, “You’d go back to his place and he’d sit you down, give you a drink, and say, ‘Just check this out.’ He’d go over to his tape deck, and for hours blast you with B.B. King, Eric Clapton… he was sort of showing me where all of Eric’s stuff was from. He gave me a little evening’s education. I was turned on after that, and bought the Epiphone Casino.” Mayall recalls the late-night record sessions. “I showed him my hollow body guitar that I’d bought when I was in the army in Japan in 1955.
The right-handed Epiphone Casino ES-230TD (serial number 84075) that McCartney purchased at the end of ’64 has a rare early-style Gibson-design headstock rather than Epiphone’s later hourglass-shaped headstock. The Epiphone Casino and the Gibson ES-330 were both built in the same Gibson US factory in those days. Later all the Epiphones were made overseas.
McCartney used his Casino extensively in the studio with The Beatles, including the memorable lead-guitar break on “Ticket To Ride.” He also used it throughout his solo career, and still owns the guitar.

Gibson had been making thinline electric guitars since 1955 (the Stathopoulos had never introduced a thinline Epiphone), and Gibson introduced the thinline double-cutaway, semi-hollow ES-335 in 1958. Almost concurrently, a similar (and fancier) model appeared in the Epi line – the Sheraton. A year later, Gibson introduced a stepped-down model with the same body shape but with a fully hollow body and single-coil pickups, called the ES-330. In ’61, a model similar to the Gibson ES-330 showed up in the Epiphone line as the Casino.

Structurally, the Casino was the same as the ES-330, with a thinline, double-cutaway hollow body. Functionally, too, it was the same guitar, with one or two “dog-ear” P-90 pickups (with black covers), a Tune-O-Matic bridge, and a trapeze tailpiece. A vibrato was optional. Cosmetically, both models had single-ply binding on the top, back, and fingerboard, pearl dot fingerboard inlays, and an inlaid peghead logo with no other ornamental peghead inlay. The Casino was offered in sunburst or Royal Tan finish while the ES-330 was offered in sunburst or natural.
In the spring of ’66, during recording sessions for Revolver, John Lennon and George Harrison both bought Casinos. The two were virtually identical guitars except Harrison’s had a Bigsby vibrato, while Lennon’s had the standard Epiphone “trapeze” tailpiece. Lennon’s did have a small black ring mounted around its pickup selector switch. Both had the more common Epiphone-style headstock (unlike Paul’s) and were fitted with gold-colored Volume and Tone knobs.

The first time John and George performed live with their Casinos was when The Beatles made an appearance on the popular British TV show “Top Of The Pops” on June 16, 1966. The lipped their new single, “Rain” and “Paperback Writer.”
In early 1968, while the Beatles were in India, studying transcendental meditation with The Maharishi and friends, including Donovan. Donovan convinced the trio to sand the finish off their instruments, telling them how a guitar sounds better without a heavy finish. After returning to London, during sessions for “White Album,” Lennon and Harrison sanded their Casinos. Lennon primarily played his newly stripped Casino for the sessions. Harrison said that once they’d removed the finish, they became much better guitars. “I think that works on a lot of guitars,” he explained. “If you take the paint and varnish off and get the bare wood, it seems to sort of breathe.” With the completion of the White Album, promo clips were filmed for the single “Revolution”/“Hey Jude” showing John using his now natural Casino.
On December 11, 1968, Lennon appeared as a special guest for the filming of The Rolling Stones’ television special, “Rock ’n’ Roll Circus,” which included a memorable performance by the supergroup Dirty Mac, whose members included Eric Clapton on guitar, Keith Richards on bass, Mitch Mitchell on drums, and Lennon playing his Casino.
Upgrading My Epiphone Casino
I have loved playing this Epiphone Casino over the years I owned it. Decided to make some improvements as this guitar is a keeper for sure. I was never all that happy with the pickups as they tended to sound a bit harsh at times. So I re-wired the Casino with a wiring harness from RS-GuitarWorks using their 335 vintage upgrade kit.
Swapping out pickups with chrome covers on these imported Epiphone is not was easy as it is harder to find the replacements with the correct string spacing that will fit. So I shipped my old pickups to Lollar for re-build. They turned them around in a week. They use your chrome covers, but totally re-build the pickups. They send back your old ones without the covers and the new ones are all ready to mount.
New Lollar pickups and wiring are a lot better sounding and quieter as well. If you never re-wired or swapped pickups on a hollow body guitar I suggest you send it over to your local luthier. Not as easy as a solid body guitar. You need the right tools and knowledge to “snake” the wiring through the F-Holes and pickup openings. Plastic tubing is a great help. You also need to drill or ream out for the new volume/tone pots. The Asian pots are metric and the new ones are US. Swapped out the knobs with genuine Gibson parts.

Miami Boat Show Poker Run February 18-21, 2021 Celebrating 25 years since its inception in 1996, the Miami Boat Show Poker Run brings together the key players in the performance marine industry, on the heels of the Miami International Boat Show!
The Powerboat Nation Team was in full force for this years 25th Annual Key West Poker Run presented by the Florida Powerboat Club. I had the privilege to throttle the new Goodwin Competition powered 388 Skater owned by Chris and Angela Bradley, all the way from Miami to Key West on the Wednesday departure and it was a blast. We didn’t run real hard but still managed to maintain about a 120 MPH average speed and the boat performed flawlessly.
This year about 180 boats registered for the run and of course another handful came on down on their own bringing what we estimate to be over 200 performance pleasure boats to Key West for a fun filled exciting week for us all. Our team was able to shoot lots of video and develop new content for this coming year and we got to meet many new boating friends and fans.
The outboards certainly seem to now dominate the scene as they were everywhere and we had the great opportunity to see some very cool and huge new offerings from Hydra-Sports, Nor-Tech, Sunsation, Deep Impact, and Cigarette. This size, complexity, luxury and amenities now found on these big Center Consoles is crazy. We ran a few of them through their paces and have some great video coming for you soon.Miami Poker Run 2017

The fun run began in Miami on Thursday and headed southwest to Marathon’s Faro Blanco Resort & Yacht Club, the host location for the MTI crew as well as the Florida Powerboat Club’s Miami Boat Show Poker run, which took place at the same time. On Friday the MTI fleet headed to Island Grill in Islamorada for lunch followed by a dinner gathering back at the Faro Blanco that evening.
On Saturday, the group ventured to Key West some 45 to 60 miles away depending on if the boats took the outside or inside legs to the popular destination. Beyond that the owners, which didn’t pay an event fee and handled all of their own food and lodging according to their own tastes, were on their own to have a good time and explore the Florida Keys.
While he spent most of his time with Gargiulo, his longtime friend and customer, in the breathtaking 52-foot cat powered by twin Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engines, Xtreme Powerboats owner Larry Goldman had a great time assisting various customers on both the MTI fun run and the FPC poker run.
“I went back and forth between the events and it worked out great,” Goldman said, adding that Gargiulo participated in both runs and displayed the 52-footer, which earned the FPC event’s best catamaran award, at the MTI docks one day and the FPC docks the next day. “We had a great group of customers down there and our crew was offering full support up and down the keys the entire time.Miami Poker Run 2017 Dates
“Gino’s boat ran phenomenal all weekend—we tore around every day and it didn’t miss a beat,” he added. “The only thing we had to deal with was cleaning out the sea strainers. The Missouri Gaming Commission is allowing all 13 casinos in the state to reopen this week, after more than two months of being closed to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Ameristar Casino in St. Charles and Lumière Place in St. Louis are the only casinos reopening in the region Monday. Casinos in St. Louis County, including Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights and River City Casino in Lemay, must remain closed due to county restrictions spurred by the pandemic. Casinos in Illinois are also not allowed to reopen yet.

Every dealer and casino employee is required to wear a mask and if a guest does not have a mask, they’re offered one, but not required to wear it.
Most restaurants in the Ameristar have reopened, although the night club will remain closed for now. The hotel is also operating at half capacity and is not offering valet service currently.
Strow said the casino is ready to open, despite furloughing a majority of employees in April and months of significant revenue loss.
For the last two months, Strow said the company had no revenue coming in, as all Boyd Gaming casinos were closed nationwide. The company wrote in a letter to the state in May that depending on revenue after reopening, potentially 25% to 60% of employees could be laid off.
“The range in that letter really reflects that uncertainty,” Strow said. “It’s an honest statement of we don’t know what that’s going to look like two months from now, we don’t know what our business levels are going to look like, what our staffing levels are going to look like.”
Casinos taxes are the state’s fifth largest source of revenue, according to the state gaming association.
Closures compounded by slow business from hesitant customers could hurt state income, but Strow said he is hopeful people will be back to relieve stress from being under stay-at-home orders.
“People do need that escape; they still need entertainment,” Strow said. “And so we can continue to offer them that.”

This video was created by Alison Jackson, an artist and photographer known for using look-alikes to depict famous celebrities and politicians in compromising situations. In June 2011, a few months before the above-displayed footage went viral, Jackson shared this footage to her Facebook and YouTube pages:
Jackson captioned the footage: “Rare, unseen video footage filmed shortly before his death. The world’s most infamous Osama Bin Laden sings and dances to Lady Gaga. Watch Bin Laden sing his own version of ‘Poker Face.’”
She uploaded another video presumably featuring the same look-alike actor that supposedly showed bin Laden and his favorite hair-care product: L’Oreal. Jackson wrote: “Watch recently discovered footage of America’s former most-wanted man on the run — is this an unexpected vain side to the Al-Qeuda leader?”
In short, the viral video supposedly showing bin Laden singing “Poker Face” doesn’t feature the deceased terrorist leader but a look-alike acting the part for an art piece.

1. DJ Wild Stud Poker is a five-card poker game that utilizes a Designated Player. If the player wins and has a sufficient hand for the optional BONUS side bet, then it will be paid out accordingly.

If the player is holding a hand of the same rank as the DESIGNATED PLAYER then the BET, CALL, and BONUS bets will all push. Esfandiari was taking part at the PCA and had more than $115,000 in chips at the table. He did not tell anyone about the bet and soon realized that he was suffering muscle fatigue from his constant lunges.
He decided to bring a bucket to the table and used it to relive himself as he could no longer lunge to the bathroom. Esfandiari’s antics at the table were discovered and as a result, he was kicked out of the PCA. Although he won $50,000 from Perkins, his reputation took a hit and Esfandiari admitted in retrospect that he should have used better judgment. Bill Perkins was once again at the center of this unique bet with Instagram king and high stakes poker pro Dan Bilzerian.
Perkins challenged Bilzerian to cycle from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in 48 hours for $600,000 and Bilzerian accepted the challenge.
Not many gave Bilzerian a chance as he admitted it was years since he got one a bike but once he accepted the challenge Bilzerian took things seriously. He worked with Lance Armstrong to build his stamina and in the end succeeded in completing the race within 48 hours – although there was some controversy as Bilzerian allegedly drafted behind a van that was filming the event.

Not a lot of people remember this bet because it happened way back in 2002 but it is memorable because Phil Hellmuth, considered one of the best poker pros in the history of the game with 14 World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and over $20 million in prize money shaved his head after losing a prop bet.
During the 2002 WSOP, amateur poker pro Robert Varkonyi eliminated Hellmuth from the Main Event and Hellmuth would go on to say that he would shave his head if Varkonyi would go on to win the Main Event.
Varkonyi ended up winning the main event and he was kind enough to let Hellmuth off the hook but since Hellmuth had promised his hair to charity, he ended up shaving his head, donating his hair and then paying $10,000 from his own pocket to charity to buy his hair back.#5 Phil Ivey – Go Veggie For One Year
Tom “durrrr” Dwan told poker great Phil Ivey that he would pay him $1 million if he could be a total vegetarian for a period of 12 months.

Our View...Sherwood Showdown slot is good as far as animations, sounds and graphics are concerned. The RTP is normal Novomatic fayre at 95.13% and there is very little potential in the base game and sadly too in the bonus rounds and especially the free spins which cannot really pay over 300x bet. therein lies the problem, you get plenty of entertainment for your money but once you get too far down the low volatility will ensure you’ll not get back to par. This is one instance where I wish the Sheriff would actually catch Robin Hood once and for all...
